Managing food allergies differently than your friends do

Dear Alexander,

A kid in my class has the same allergies as I do. Why does he get to eat some things that I'm not allowed to have?

It is not uncommon for two people who have the exact same food allergies to manage them in different ways.

Families will decide what food is or isn’t okay for their children to eat on the basis of what their doctor has told them and how serious the food allergy is.

Every family has its own rules for taking care of food allergies, and it is important that you stick to your rules – even if your friend’s rules are different.

Good luck!

Your friend,

Alexander Signature
